Central Library

The MIT Academy of Engineering was established in 1999 by the Maharashtra Academy of Engineering and Educational Research (MAEERS, MIT-PUNE). The Central Library started operation from the year 1999 with a collection in discipline like Computer, Electronics, Chemical and E&TC Engineering. Later on discipline like Mechanical Engineering and Information Technology were added. Its rich collection is growing very fast in terms of books, journals and services.

Mission and Vision


The Library's mission is to make its resources available to MITAOE users and to sustain and preserve a universal collection of knowledge for future generations.


To become world class learning resource centre in the area of engineering education and research and also to help its parent organization to achieve its aim of becoming an ideal engineering institute of highest caliber with state of the art research and high quality education.


The objective of MAE library is to actively participate in the educational mission of the college through collection and dissemination of information to meet the curricular and general requirements of the students, faculty and staff.
To expand the information resources available, by establishing mutual beneficial partnerships with educational institutions and other organizations and to respect and preserve the knowledge of the past, for the future.


  1. The Central Library started operation from the year 1999 with the collection of four major branches.  
  2. Located on the second floor in the Takshshila building.
  3. The built up area of the library is 7950.53 sq. ft. (795 sq. mt).
  4. Air conditioned reading hall with the capacity of 250 students.
  5. Library has conductive atmosphere, adequately lighted infrastructure.
  6. First ISO certified engineering college library in Pune.
  7. First engineering library in Pune that implemented barcode technology.
  8. Central Library follows open access system that allows users a direct access to the library collection.
  9. Library opens on all the days of the week except three national and Diwali holidays.

Library Opening Timing:

Monday to Friday : 08.30 a.m. to 10.00 p.m.
Book Circulation timings : 09.00 a.m. to 07.00 p.m.
Saturday, Sunday and other holidays : 09.00 a.m. to 05.00 p.m.
Book circulation timings : 09.30 a.m. to 04.30 p.m.

No issue and return will be done after 07.00 p.m. on all working days and after 04.30 p.m. on Saturdays, Sundays and other holidays.

All students, faculty members, visiting faculty and other employees of the institute are entitled to avail membership of the library.

Document Required for availing the library facility:-Fee Receipt ,Two stamp size photographs. Library Membership will be granted within 4 working days after submitting the form. Membership validity: 1 year

Library Membership is nontransferable

Note : bring to our notice if there are any changes in your postal address, branch or mobile number. Sub-lending of books is considered misuse of the privilege and may result in withdrawal of your membership.

The other detailed information & application forms are available at the circulation counter, and you can download the form, from the website For availing the library facility, students must show their fee receipt at the circulation counter and should submit a duly filled membership form with two stamp size photographs. Library Membership will be granted to within 2 working days after submitting the form. Student must also communicate to the library in case of any change in address, branch and mobile number during the period of their membership. Membership will be valid only for one academic year. They must renew their membership every year. Library membership is not transferable as they are tokens of privilege of the member to whom they are issued. Sub-lending of books is considered misuse of this privilege and may escort to the withdrawal of membership.

If any visitor wants to access the Central Library, he/she has to produce a letter from the principal/librarian of his/her college and also bring his/her college I-Card. Visitors can only refer to books or journals in the library premises. They are not entitled to borrow books or any library materials.

Borrowing Rules

Borrowing Rules for Home Lending books Borrowing of books is allowed only to the registered library members. Readers can borrow books from text books and general book section Books are issued to all eligible members as per their Borrowing privilege between 9.00 a.m. to 6.00 p.m. only. Books in the stack section are arranged as per the Dewey Decimal Classification Scheme. The access to books is through Open Access.
The borrowing of books can be done against the library card only. Readers must check the books before issuing, in case any book is damaged, it should be brought to the notice of the circulation staff; else the borrower will be held responsible for the same.
Books may be renewed if the same are not in demand or not reserved .The renewal will be done only if the book is physically presented. Books that are in demand may be lent for a shorter period as decided by the librarian.
If any book is not available in the Library and the same is required by other reader, then the readers are requested to demand it by filling the reservation slip which is available at the circulation counter or can reserve the book using Web OPAC.
Overnight issue of book will be allowed only for Reading hall copies and home lending copies against the I-Card of borrower after 9.30 p.m. on working days and after 4.30 p.m. on holidays, and it should be returned next day by 10.00 a.m.
Damaged book will not be accepted from the borrowers when they return the same, it should be replaced with the latest edition of the same. Users have to pay binding charges for minor damage
If a reader does not return book or other library material within the prescribed time his/her name will be included in the Defaulter’s list which will be displayed at the beginning of the every month also the membership will be cancelled until he/she clears the dues.
Books on loan can be recalled by the Librarian at any moment without assigning any reason thereof.

Borrowing Rules for Reference material
Reference books, bound and loose issues of journals, periodicals, Old question papers, CD-ROMs, and other reference material will not be issued out of the library premises to anyone. Readers can refer to reference books against I-card, only within the library.

Over due Rules

All the users are requested to return the borrowed books in time so that it can be made available to the other readers.

For home lending books

Duration for home lending books : 15 days.
In case of books returned after the due date, fine charged will be as mentioned below :
a) First 7 days Rs 1.00 per day per book
b) 08-15 days Rs 2.00 -- do –
c) 16-59 days Rs. 3.00 per day per book
d) Above 60 days Rs 5.00 -- do –

For Overnight lending or for Reference Materials

a) Rs.10.00 per day per book.
b) If users take reference books or other reference material intentionally or by mistake out of the library, they will be charged a fine of Rs. 50.00 per day, per item and their library membership will be cancelled

Readers who repeatedly fail to return Damage and Loss of books and other materials

Loss of any book by a borrower should be reported to the Circulation counter immediately to avoid further fine. Borrower will have to replace the lost book with the latest edition of the same or pay one and half times cost of the book to the library.

If the book is not replaced within 7 days, the defaulter will be charged fine from the due date to the date it is returned and if the book is out of print then they will have to pay 3 times the cost of the book as fine.

If a book in multi volume set is damaged or lost, the users will be liable to replace the whole set of the latest edition or pay current price of the book and half times the cost of book as fine.

No Dues

A member must return all the library books and other materials borrowed by him/her and clear all library dues before demanding for a no dues clearance certificate


Rules for using e-library

1. The Internet facility is provided to the registered users of the Library only. Outsiders will not be allowed to use this facility.

2. Computers in the library are meant for browsing library databases and to access e-resources only. Users are advised to make use of this facility only to support their academic and research activities Use of these computers for social networking or entertainment is illegitimate

3. Users should produce the Identity Card at the Reference counter and collect the same after browsing. Users should enter the name and other details in the register before browsing the e-resources. Maximum time for browsing is restricted to one hour only when, the number of users is more than five.

4. It is our collective responsibility, as far as the safety of the systems is concerned. Any misuse of the systems should be brought to notice of the Librarian.

5. All the computers are equipped with the Electronic Surveillance Software to detect the Internet sites visited and searched by each user.

7. The Librarian reserves the right to stop extending this facility to a person found misusing, E-mail and chatting on the Net is prohibited

8. Download of full text access is permitted to the users, however, systematic download is not permissible, See the Copyright notice. Members may please note that the library will not provide any floppy, CDs etc for downloads.

9. Users are not permitted to save on any section of the hard disk of any of the PCs. Users can only temporarily save in 'My documents' area of the PC. Users must not save any matter on the 'desk tops'.

10. It is the sole responsibility of the user to take timely back -up of the matter that is created or saved by him / her. The library staff, for the purpose of maintenance, shall delete such files every 15 days to provide enough working space for the users and ensure proper functioning of the PCs in terms of speed and other technical snags.

11. Users must not down-load any screen-saver other than the one activated by the library and should also not change the screen settings.

12. Duplication of any software or audio-visual program is not allowed. This infringes copyright regulations and offenders will be liable for legal action

Rules for using other libraries

1. British Council Library, Pune

1.1 Readers are requested to carry their identity card along with the BCL membership card while visiting the library. Only one membership card will be given per reader.

1.2 Card will be allotted only for 15 days. Fine of Rs. 1 per day will be charged after 15 days, if the card is not returned to the MIT AOE Central Library.

1.3 Readers are responsible for the material issued on the BCL library card.

1.4 Please make sure while returning the card that no fine or books are pending on the membership card that is issued.

1.5 Books can be renewed only once.

1.6 If the reader’s name occurs in the BCL defaulters list, he/she will not be able to avail this facility thereafter.

2. University of Pune

3.1 Books will be issued only against the borrower slip.

3.2 Borrower slip will be allotted only for 15 days. Readers are requested that they should clear all the dues while returning a book.

3. DELNET, Delhi

3.1 Through DELNET, any reader can access to Union Catalogue of books & periodicals, CD-ROM database, Union list of Video Recordings, Theses and Dissertations, Indian specialists database : Who`s Who, Profile of member libraries, Cambridge dictionaries online, US Patents, Engineering and Technology e-journals : Table of contents.

3.2 Apart from above, readers can avail the facility to photocopy a particular chapter from any book and also to photocopy journals, articles as and when required. For which the reader has to pay for courier/post and photocopy charges against each transaction.
